Maja Siska (b. 1969 in Köln, Germany)  studied history of art, French and English at St. Anne´s School in England for a year in the late 1980s. After her Abitur in 1989 she continued with her art history studies in Munich before shifting her attention to architecture and enrolled at the University in Stuttgart in 1990. During that time she was awarded a summer scholarship to the Ecole d´Art Americaines in Fontainebleau, France. In 1994, she went to study at Arizona State University with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She graduated with a Master of Architecture degree in 1996 from Arizona State University. During her time in Arizona she took classes in the art department with photographer Mark Klett. She went on to live and work as an architect in Ireland before moving to Iceland in 2000. Since 2004, she has been concentrating on painting and has, amongst other courses, taken part in the Masterclass taught by Bjarni Sigurbjörnsson. She has been in several group exhibitions in Reykjavik since 2006, for example in Hústaka in the abandoned police station in Kópavogur in May 2008. In March 2009 she took part in  Whimsical Impetus, a show featuring five female abstract artists at the Akureyri Art Museum. In 2010 she opened her first solo show in Populus tremula, Akureyri. Shortly after she re-exhibited part of her work for Whimsical Impetus at the Icelandic Printmakers Association at Tryggvagata 17 in Reykjavík: AK remix.



Ferilskrá:

Maja Siska (f. 1969 í Köln í Þýskalandi) nam listasögu, frönsku og ensku við St. Anne's School í Englandi um eins árs skeið seint á níunda áratugnum og eftir stúdentspróf hélt hún áfram námi í listasögu í München en skipti síðan yfir í arkitektúr og hóf nám við háskólann í Stuttgart árið 1990. Meðan á því námi stóð hlaut hún styrk til sumarnáms við Ecole d'Art Americaines í Fontainebleau í Frakklandi. Árið 1994 bauðst henni styrkur til náms við Arizona State University þar sem hún sótti m.a. námskeið í myndlistardeild hjá ljósmyndaranum Mark Klett og útskrifaðist með meistaragráðu í arkitektúr 1996. Að námi loknu starfaði Maja Siska sem arkitekt á Írlandi uns hún flutti búferlum til Íslands árið 2000. Frá 2004 hefur hún einbeitt sér að málaralist og m.a. sótt námskeið hjá Bjarna Sigurbjörnssyni. Hún hefur tekið þátt í ýmsum samsýningum frá 2006, síðast í sýningunni Hústaka í yfirgefinni lögreglustöð í Kópavogi í maí 2008 og í mars 2009 í sýningunni Kenjóttar Hvatir á Listasafninu Akureyri.
